Capalex, Aluminium Extrusion Manufacturer and Supplier

Formed in 1979, Capital Aluminium Extrusions Ltd, Capalex is an independent aluminium extrusion company with all manufacturing, machining and fabrication, powder coating, heat treatment, assembly, storage, despatch and administrative functions under one roof at a single site factory in Cleator Moor, Cumbria. 

Capalex started by 2 former employees of a large aluminium extruder that went into liquidation in 1978. The former employees bought the smaller of the two extrusion presses from the receiver and commenced business, specialising in making small, tight tolerance extrusions to order.  Uniquely amongst extruders they offered a ‘no minimum quantity’ service with excellent lead times and the company has prospered since.

Since incorporation in 1979 until June 1997 Capalex rented a 30,000 sq ft factory built by English Estates on Leconfield Industrial Estate in Cleator Moor. In June 1997 Capalex bought an adjacent 57,000 sq ft site and the company’s operation was transformed across to the new factory during that year.  A second extrusion press and production line was installed in late 1995, and there has been continuous investment in equipment for machining, powder coating, heat treatment and testing.

Since 2007, Capalex have acquired a new building measuring 5,000 sq ft mainly to be used as a storage facility for stock. Capalex are able to store stock profiles with prior agreement with customers. In line with continuous improvement to the business Capalex also acquired a new 600 tonne indirect automated extrusion press.
